{a good, long life} Last night, after her amazing quinceañera birthday party, Cory died in her sleep. How neat that we were able to celebrate the sweet blessing she was to our family before she went. "Luke" by Patricia MacLachlan & Emily MacLachlan Charest from Once I Ate a Pie The sun is warm And I sleep. I dream about when I was young. I chased snowflakes in winter. And ran through the grasses in spring. I still bark when I want to. And tonight I might howl at the moon. But now the sun is warm. And I sleep. And dream. |
cory's quinceanera
Cory, our family dog since I was in junior high, turned fifteen this month, so we celebrated her "quinceañera" today at my parents' house. She sure got the royal treatment!
Born with a heart defect, Cory underwent surgery as a puppy at the A&M vet school. Cory "saw the light" as they say, but they were able to resuscitate her. The animal shelter folks told us she wouldn't live past six, but obviously she has been so well loved that she has made it far past six...

Explanations for a few...
(row, column)
C1: Kate pulled books off the shelf and excitedly declared, "A BOOK!" with each one before tossing it aside and getting another one. That reminds me I still haven't picked up in there.
C3: Saint Kirby.
C4: Defines our week. Colds for both girls, plus a teething Kate, plus Nick out of town country has been rough. We didn't leave the house much at all. It's so hard to feed a baby with a cold. Good thing Caroline has reserves. :)
D2: Kate gets super excited when she sees the moon in the daytime sky. Funny... she goes to bed so early that she never sees it at night!
D3: Orange crayon in Kate's teeth. I let her color in her high chair while I was tending to Caroline. At least she was happy and quiet!
E1: A diaper explosion on Caroline's freshly ironed, WHITE shorts not 5 minutes after I dressed her ... so typical.
