lens baby @ the tunnel at adriatica

The girls and I met up with our Lens Baby playgroup this afternoon over at a neat tunnel near the Kastel building at Adriatica. The lighting was great; at the edge of the tunnel you could get great light coming into the eyes and on the face, but you could also get more shadows and interesting light the further into the tunnel you went. Kate had a blast, too. After everyone else left, Kate and I played that the tunnel was a pirate ship. She's getting so good at pretending; she kept yelling, "There's a storm coming!" She had fun falling overboard and swimming back to the ship. We will definitely come back here to play again!

Be warned... you are going to go cross eyed looking at these!

new gear

I've been making some big purchases thanks to generous family gifts for my birthday.

I bought the D800. I FINALLY WENT FULL FRAME!!!!

Along with that, I sold my D7000 and my 35mm (since it was for crop cameras), and I'm working on selling my macro lens. I just don't use it enough.

Today, a 28mm, a 50mm, and an 85mm were delivered to my door. I spent a little bit of time this morning testing them out for sharpness and getting a feel for the focal lengths on the full frame body.

I currently own a 50mm 1.4D, but it's been bothering me lately. That's why I'm trying out the 50 1.8G instead. I know it doesn't open up as wide, but I may decide I like it better anyways.

This shot was taken with the 50 f/1.8G. My little model was eating her snack. :)

And here she's eating lunch. Gotta keep her busy! This one was taken w/ the 28mm f/1.8G. I'm trying to decide how much distortion I'm okay with. I would rather do the 35mm f/1.4G, but it's twice as expensive.

It's going to be hard to decide what lens line up to keep! Any advice??

july miscellany

I'm still trying to catch up on editing. Here are a few random July shots I have not shared yet. I'll pull together a Minnesota trip blog post next, and after that, July pictures will be done!

This is how Caroline always sleeps... snuggled up in this corner of her bumper, and usually with a leg kicked up over the other side.

I don't even remember what she was upset about now, but she's such a mess!

father's day at the zoo

from June 18 (STILL playing catch up!)

For "actual" Father's Day, Nick went golfing, so he took the day off on Monday for us to do something as a family. We had never been to the Dallas Zoo, so off we went! We stopped for breakfast at close-by Oddfellows first.

Love how you can see Caroline grabbing for everyone else's food!

And here is just a Flickr slideshow of our zoo pics. I didn't really get any good pics of the animals, so these are mostly just of the girls enjoying the zoo! (Or sleeping through the experience, as in Caroline's case.)

conked out

After a tiring morning at the allergist yesterday, Caroline conked out in the car on the way home. Skin testing, a flu shot, and no morning nap wore her out.
Her skin testing showed that she has outgrown her egg allergy! She's still not supposed to eat egg for a while, but we are glad she doesn't have to have an Epi-pen!

Doesn't she have great eyelashes? So thick and dark and long...
